This week the attack levelled up.
- Lob passes. Chip the ball over a defender's head, with a marker on the grass showing exactly where it will come down.
- Smart passing. The pass goes to the team-mate you are actually facing, not just the closest one.
- Goal celebrations. Score, and play freezes with the ball sitting in the net so you can soak it in.
- 3v3. Enough bodies for a give-and-go and a defender to beat.
The marker fight
The landing marker took hours. I started by trying to model the ball's physics up front: momentum, drag, the launch impulse. It was a guessing game and it was always a little wrong. The fix was to stop predicting and start reading. A beat after the kick, sample the ball's real velocity and simulate forward from that. Dead on, every time.
