The net ripples

Proper 3D goals with posts you can clatter, a net that ripples when you smash one in, and a ball that settles in the back of it. Scoring finally feels like scoring.

Day 15BACK OFTHE NET

The goals are real now. Proper 3D models, posts and all, woodwork you can clatter, and a net that ripples when you smash one in. The ball catches in it and settles in the back.

Putting the ball in the net hits different.

How the ripple works

First I tried real cloth-versus-ball physics. It was a nightmare: fast balls tunnel straight through cloth, and simulating it tanks performance for what is a half-second effect.

The fix that actually works is a cheat that reads as real. When the ball hits the net, fire a tiny inertia "punch" into the cloth. The pinned edges stay on the frame, the rest billows. It looks like the ball rippled the net, and it costs almost nothing.
